The Magic of White Vinegar

A few years ago I decided to ditch the store bought cleaners.  Not only were they getting expensive but they are also loaded with chemicals I didn’t want in our home, especially since his family has a history of cancer.

The solution was white vinegar.  Its cheap, natural and best of all one bottle does so many things !

I use it to mop the floors a few times a week.  Hot water, a heavy dose of vinegar, and a few drops of Essential oils.  It not only cleans but deodorizes and leaves the house smelling  fresh once it dries.

Works amazing for pet accidents.  Apply heavily and let sit then mop up or soak up with a sponge.  Rinse with clean water.

I use it to kill germs in the entire house but especially the bathroom and anything the sick children have touched, door knobs included.

After cutting up chicken I always spray the counter top with vinegar, let it sit for 10 minutes and then wash away with soap and water to protect us from the germs that cause food poisoning.

It makes our stainless steal sparkle and doesn’t streak.

Sprayed on carpets, drapes and furniture it helps to remove smells.  It even saved our couch after the nephew had an accident and I didn’t discover it till weeks later.  Took soaking all 3 cushions in gallons of it, but the smell is long gone.  I also wash out the trash cans with it once a month for the same reason.

I also pour a gallon into the toilet once a month and allow it to sit over night.  It not only kills any germs and helps with any smells but it helps to keep the sewer line clear and running smoothly by getting rid of any hard water build up.  Our toilet is back to flushing the way it should !

For a clogged toilet add in one cup of baking soda and a gallon of vinegar and allow to sit over night.  Flush in the morning and it usually is fixed.

For fabric softener I mix vinegar and Essential oils in  a downy ball and toss in the washer.  It softens the cloths and leaves behind a soft scent.

1 cup of water with 1/4 cup of vinegar boiled in the microwave will let you easily clean it.   This works in the oven also !

To make your glasses sparkle, pour a bit of vinegar in your wash water.

To make your kitchen drain smell better pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down then top off with 1 cup of vinegar.  When its done bubbling rinse away.  Very helpful if you have fruit flies lingering about.

Use it to clean your windows and make them sparkle !

All this, from one gallon of vinegar that costs us, less then 3.00 !   Our home, even with 3 dogs ( 2 pups and one older dog who just  got the hang of house breaking ) smells fresh and clean,  I have reduced the amount of chemicals he’s being exposed to daily and I save some cash,  which is really important when you live on one income and try to save as much as possible.
